Ried Spiegel is one of the highest-lying vineyard sites of Feuersbrunn. The name Spiegel dates back to the Old High German word spekulare, which among other interpretations, means far view. The mixture of loess, red tertiary gravel and the adjacent forests is ideal for cultivating fresh Veltliners with mineral spiciness, which never get too opulent or heavy.
The particular character of this Grüner Veltliner is mainly influenced by loess soil. It is a perfect blend of grapes resulting from several harvest runs, producing a wine with great freshness, and an intense varietal character, paired with a quite powerful finish. This Veltliner shows lovely aromas of tropical fruits and citrus notes.
We are of the opinion that it takes one year for very powerful and mature white wines to reach their point of drinkability, these wines are bottled in early summer and put on sale in autumn.
When we talk about our fully developed Saphir wines we also need to talk about young people and their fresh innovative spirit. It is Florian, the youngest family member, who brings new ideas to life and likes to experiment with the skills he gained during his internships. Spontaneous fermentation, fermentation and storage in wooden barrels or other containers, prolonged lees contact and a long maturation period characterize these wines.
